water me
A friend of mine showed me a comic book that an artist friend of his had drawn while spending a year in Tokyo. The book is well written and funny, what would be called “sehr unterhaltsam” in this country, but above all it is the idea that makes it so special. Dirk Schwieger, the author, let people send him ideas of things to do in Tokyo, and then went and did them, illustrating his various adventures in the book.
This is similar to an idea I’ve had for my artwork. Because I make ephemeral art, its not that easy to sell. Theorectically people who like what I do could pay me to do some kind of installation in their garden, but that would be prohibitively expensive and besides, I don’t want to fly around the world as if I was a touring rock band. Of course I can sell prints of my works, but a print is never the real thing.
Because selling prints is old fashioned I’ve decided to let people pay me for something I haven’t done yet.
How it works:
1. Participants send me an email with a bid of how much they would like to to pay, and the highest bidder gets the contract.
2. I go outside and make something ephemeral. I take a picture of it.
3. The image is printed and I write up a report of how I created it, and mail it to the contractor.
4. I upload the picture and the story (with a link to the contractor’s website if he or she so desires) to project water me
If you are not familiar with my artwork check out one of my three land art sets on flickr: winter spring fall
send all bids directly to doubleyou.em@gmail.com

-I don’t accept bids under $100
-your bid is binding
